Do All Mandalorians Have Jetpacks? (Explained)

The Mandalorians appear in almost all Star Wars projects. By now, there is quite a lot that the fans know about this group.

Amongst their notable features often appear jetpacks and the signature Mandalorian armour. Even so, the Star Wars franchise addressed not all questions about the Mandalorians.

The fans may know a lot about beskar armour that the Mandalorian must earn before wearing. Yet, the jetpack, in many ways, remains a mystery.

Are they widely accessible? Do all Mandalorian have one? Can you build one, earn one, or steal one? What are the mechanics behind them?I will uncover the true mystery of the Mandalorian jetpacks.

Do All Mandalorians Have Jetpacks?

No. All right, I will elaborate on this question a little bit more.

First, the jetpack is a personal transportation device used by many different groups. It is a handy possession that increases one’s degree of mobility and can even serve as a weapon. That is why jetpacks were often seen amongst the Mandalorians and clone troopers.

The jetpacks were never exclusive to the Mandalorians!

Jetpacks were a staple for many Mandalorians. It was during the time when Mandalore was a neutral planet with a great future. Even so, during that time, they were hardly easy to produce. These devices are costly and take a lot of effort to complete.

Not every Mandalorian in the franchise was lucky enough to get their jetpack!

Before the Republican era, the old Mandalorians also used jetpacks. They were a part of their military get-up. It was before the Mandalorian-Jedi War and the Mandalorian Civil War. After those events, the planet’s richness died.

In the current Star Wars timeline, jetpacks, like the Mandalorian armour, are scarce. Only the franchise’s notable heroes are worthy of getting their own Mandalorian jetpack.

Here Din Djarin comes to mind. The Mandalorian spend the whole first season without the jetpack. He only got one during the second season of the series. In the same fashion, Sabine Wren finally got a jetpack in “Imperial Supercommandos.”

It took her three seasons to reach this point!

Sabine had to take it from an Imperial Mandalorian Trooper. Judging from her excitement, she wanted to get her hands on the portable device for a whilst.

Is it traditional for the Mandalorians to have jetpacks? Yes.

Do all the Mandalorians have jetpacks? No.

Similarly to the Mandalorian armour, the jetpack is expensive and rare. Not every single Mandalorian out there can afford to buy one. Many of our favourite heroes frequently get their devices through “aggressive negotiations.”

How Does a Mandalorian Get a Jetpack?

The Mandalorian jetpack is arguably not as important as the Mandalorian armour. Even so, these devices are undeniably rare in the current canon after the Republic’s fall.

In The Mandalorian, many wanted to steal the jetpack or praised its efficiency and value!

The rarity thus explains why only a few Mandalorians have proper jetpacks.

Unlike the sacred Mandalorian armour, the jetpacks were not exclusive to this community. Even clone troopers and later stormtroopers used jetpacks on countless missions. It is unclear whether it was connected with Boba Fett‘s Mandalorian armour. Possibly, it was a simple convenience.

As such, jetpacks are more practical than religious. Indeed, they are challenging to find and build. No wonder Din Djarin acquired his possession only after the death of another Mandalorian.

Since they are rare, I dare say that you have to be extraordinary to earn them. As a prized possession, it remains a crucial part of Mandalorian culture. Even so, there is yet to be proof that the original Mandalorians had to pass trials to earn their flying devices. It was likely a part of a traditional get-up and came in the “Mandalorian war kit.”

Besides, for Din, getting his jetpack was a final piece of the puzzle in his quest to become a true Mandalorian.

It is a symbol, if nothing more!

How Do Mandalorians Control Their Jetpack?

The Mandalorian Jetpacks are both complex and intuitive. This has certainly become clear in season 2 of The Mandalorian. It expanded on the importance of the armour and the control over jetpacks.

In episode two of the second season, the Mandalorian had to remove his jetpack. As such, he was quick to resort to a console built into his gauntlet. The former allowed complete control over the jetpack.

Din seemed to control the direction of the flyer. Even so, it wasn’t the only trick up his sleeve. The Mandalorian was also able to separate the pilot from the jetpack. I can only presume that it is yet another button or a special command added to the gauntlet

The remote control is a nasty trick for those wishing to steal the Mandalorian device!

The device can be as intuitive and handy even without a remote control. Regardless, the Star Wars franchise was never clear about the actual activation.

Using the gauntlet is the most common way to activate this device. Even so, many other characters used the jetpack without the gauntlet or even a helmet. Obi-Wan Kenobi is a primary example.

The Mandalorians rely on consoles or their helmet interface. That said, even Obi-Wan could use the device — so there must be some hidden button.

If not the button, then an algorithm. It would allow the jetpack to calculate movements and altitude for automatic activation. This feature would also explain why the pilots take off flying. They don’t even stop to think for a second.

To activate your jetpack, I recommend finding a gauntlet with a console first. This seems to be the most bulletproof option!

The flying part is also up for debate. Traditional Mandalorians used helmets for orientation. Even so, you can still get away without it. Flying the famous Mandalorian jetpack is not far from roller skating. You have to angle your body, depending on the course.

Still, having proper navigation wouldn’t hurt!

Conclusion

The Mandalorian Jetpacks are extremely rare in the current Star Wars timeline.

Many groups like the Mandalorians and even clone troopers used jetpacks. The former helped to increase their mobility. They were expensive, yet not as rare as in many shows like The Mandalorian. As such, it was before the fall of the Republic.

Moreover, they are not exclusive to a particular group. Thus, they are not as symbolic as the Mandalorian armour. Even so, their price and rarity make them prized possessions. In fact, many protagonists like Din and Sabine had to steal their jetpacks from enemies!

As for their technical characteristics, Jetpacks are relatively intuitive. People control them with a particular console on the Mandalorian gauntlet. Regardless, there must be an automatic flight mode installed.

As such, suppose you appeared in the Star Wars universe. In that case, you could have stolen a jetpack of your own without being a Mandalorian.

Controlling it wouldn’t be much of a problem!
